People started to know his name after he saved King Jayanegara from a rebellion. Because he was brave and loyal, Gajah Mada was made the Mahapatih of Majapahit. In front of the royal leaders, he made a famous promise called the Palapa Oath. He said he would not enjoy life until he united all the Archipelago under Majapahit’s flag. He worked very hard, led soldiers, discussed with small kings, and made sure the people were safe, so that Majapahit reached its golden age. However, at the peak of his success, the Bubat War happened, and it ruined his good name. Gajah Mada then resigned from his position and chose to live simply, far from the palace. Even though his last days were quiet, people still remember him as a brave hero who loved his homeland. Gajah Mada’s story teaches us about ambition, duty, and the price of a strong determination for the good of everyone
